Magic realm

a realm that is covered by an omnipresent force known to humans as 'magic'.

pretty much all creatures here use magic in some way, even natural structures through means of coincidence can activate magic.

the mages, who populate this realm, have pretty well and truly turned all stones in this realm, leaving any answers to any question you have about anything in a book in a library.

dragons

nigh-unstoppable creatures of destruction.

a later stage of life for wyrms. they use magic to constantly alter their own body to accomodate for situations they are not used to, commonly resulting in a hydra forming if left to overdevelop. they commonly have many of the traits from when they were a wyrm, differentiated by them getting noticably larger in size and them having body parts that have no immediate use, it is advised to start watching them when they get to this stage in life.

golems

artificial beings made with the intent of having extra hands.

they're made from a light blue clay-like substance, with their shape being held together by blue rocks that poke out of them. they were made by mages for the purpose of having extra hands, intended to be destroyed once their purpose had been fufilled. they have human-like intelligence, a by-product of magic animating them. they can take on countless forms, but commonly take on the appearance of a monsterous humanoid being.

hydras

a large ball of magical cancer.

the result of a dragon that has over-developed, defined by extra heads that serve very little purpose. their minds are largely beast-like, acting to survive out of instinct. due to to the nature of dragons, the physical appearance of a hydra can vary wildly between different specimens, but there are commonalities. only one of the heads have full natural facical features (eyes, nose, mouth), with the other ones seemingly being rapidly thrown together. due to the unstable nature of both hydras and dragons, it is imperative that hydras be either sealed away or killed once one develops.

mages

societal beings that make use of magic.

they primarily dedicate their life to the study of magic, sometimes to intense training with the purpose of protecting other mages. their biology is noticably different from humans, having 4 arms as opposed to 2, having hair colours that would be unnatural for a human, and having legs in varying amount ending in feet that resemble human hands (sans thumbs). their hands are also drastically different from humans, resulting in them developing a dramatically different set of tools.

mage crabs

crabs that make use of magic.

these are to mages what chimpanzees are to humans, and to humans, they resemble crabs. dispite their relation to mages, they only have two very different claws. one claw has specialized to cast a holding spell functioning similarly to half-life's gravity gun, with their other claw functioning like an earth crab's. their feet, similar to mages, resemble monkey paws without thumbs. like the artifact from human mythology, a paw from a mage crab can grant a wish from any sentient being, but due to the simple nature of their minds, can cause effects that are unwanted at best and disasterous at worst.

magic

stuff.

while not resembling any other living being in most regards, it has shown signs of intelligence, memory, and sentience. while magic has no 'true' appearance noticable by the human eye and no specific appearance to a mage's eye, it has commonly been depicted as a pink gas to save time. magic has multiple forms, attuning to various asthetics, the more a single asthetic of an area aligns with the form of magic in it, the more magic will be willing to do things for it. magic can be directly communicated with, but only in a language it understands, which is different from the language that mages learn to speak in day-to-day life as to not cause any misunderstandings.

magic trees

trees that can use magic to ward off attackers.

they physically resemble oak trees with a blue tint while occasionally changing shape. some have displayed signs of intelligence, using magic to mimic voices it has heard before, suggesting they can understand languages it has heard. during the event, it has learned to mimic human and elven voices as opposed to just mage voices. despite the possibilities of intelligence from them, their lifestyle mostly consists of going to the most nutricious location it can get to and saving up as much energy it can, only spending energy to cast magic when it proves benefitial, sometimes changing to a more mobile form to transport itself to different locations.

the leviathan

a huge, long apex predator inhabiting the ocean of the realm.

it has the physical body plan of an eel, but without any reproductive organs, instead having parts of their body occasionally fall off, and using magic, making those regenerate into smaller leviathan-like fish (currently unnamed), which would never reach the size of the main leviathan. no human has even seen the 'true' leviathan during the event, only its offspring. the physical description of the leviathan comes from mages who have seen it or an image of it themselves, which lead to humans giving the nickname based on its mythological counterpart.

wisps

beings of magic energy that have split off from the main body of magic.

they primarily appear as orbs of white light that gives off a blue glow, although no humans have experienced any eye damage when looking at them during the event. as beings of magic, they can cast spells without any preparation nigh instantaneously, although they have to use parts of themself to do it, and they need to collect themselves after the fact. they only if ever make themselves seen in low light level enviroments.

wyverns

large, flying reptile-like creatures.

wyverns are large, hunter/scavenger predators, being slightly smaller than the average person from their head to their tail tip. despite their large size, they're still light enough to maintain flight. their body is almost entirely red, with tints of yellow and orange occasionally highlighting their body. they commonly cover their small heads with the skull of a deceaced dragon, but there have been sightings of a wyvern wearing the skull of a dead dragon, sometimes from an excess head of a hydra. the visual of wyverns have inpired soldiers of the mage's military to wear frightening masks when doing missions.

wyrms

the first stage of a wyrm-dragon-hydra lifespan.

the closest comparison to a wyrm from anything in our world is salmon fry, with dragons being regular salmon in this comparison. wyrms physically resemble fish-eyed snakes, with their main mode of transport being slithering to anywhere it needs to be. their instincts are guided towards consuming enough to survive, settling into a niche, and finding a mate when they mature, but in an animalistic manner.

youkai

wisps that have been domesticated and specialized to carry all information on a specific topic.

youkai tend to develop malliable physical forms based on the information it knows. they survive by having energy directly injected into them by magic from finding new information about their topic and connections to different topics. 2 or more youkai can exchange information by joining their bodies together, an activity they enjoy doing. some youkai have been proved to have achieved sapience and are able to understand language, with them commonly being seen as generally submissive. oddly, during the event, they were able to get energy from human fear while in the presence of one.

zashiki-warashi

the result of a yokai that has gathered enough knowledge to find an energy source of their own.

their forms solidify, and their demeanor noticably changes from meek and/or fearful (dangerous and/or terrifying to humans during the incident) to calm and conifident. they are still willing to impart their knowledge with the world and anyone they come across, but seek to live their own life. although, some have decided to take a flesh-eating route, focusing more on prolonging their own life and gain a more malicious personality.
